About Us

The Australian Climbing Association (NSW) (ACANSW) is the peak body for recreational rock climbing in New South Wales. As a non-profit entity, ACANSW serves as the voice of the climbing community, working tirelessly to secure and maintain access to climbing areas through collaboration with governmental bodies and land managers.

Our mission is to ensure that climbers can enjoy their passion while respecting and preserving the natural and cultural heritage of the lands we climb on.

Our Principles

  • Environmental Responsibility: We promote Leave No Trace principles, educate climbers on the importance of respecting Aboriginal cultural sites, and engage in active stewardship projects to maintain and improve climbing areas.
  • Community Engagement: Our initiatives include organising clean-up days, restoring native vegetation, and advocating for climbers’ rights in legal and governmental forums. We foster a community that values sustainability and respect, making rock climbing a positive force for environmental conservation.

Funding and Support

  • We are funded by a combination of membership fees, donations, and associate membership through the major climbing clubs.
  • Our work is powered by the dedication of our members, volunteers, and partners.

Collaboration and Activities

  • We collaborate with regional climbing coalitions, local climbing clubs, and other outdoor organisations to address local issues and support the climbing community throughout NSW.
  • Our efforts include negotiating access agreements, participating in conservation projects, and providing resources and education to ensure that rock climbing remains a safe, sustainable, and enjoyable activity for generations to come.
