One Mile Beach bush regeneration
The third bush regeneration event at One Mile Beach is being held in December. Climbers have attended the previous 2 and their efforts are much appreciated. The weeding is along the access to Morna Point Crag, and it is much improved, but there is no shortage of bitou!
You must register- let Sue know when you do that you are a climber as you will be allocated a steeper and more challenging plot to weed.
Climbing afterwards at the Morna Point Crag is one option if the tides and swell allow. high tide is at about 120 pm. Climbing is not part of the weeding programme and you do so at your own risk. If you lack a crew to climb with, Niranda is happy to be contacted. If you are seeking to join her group the email is nirandaw@gmail.com
In addition, Jordan and Yann of Escape Eco adventures will be offering water based activities which might be more attractive on a hot day (these guys also climb).
Note the starting time is earlier and the duration an hour less to allow for potentially hot weather.
Here's the information provided by the organisers:
The Friends of Tomaree National Park & Escape Eco Adventures are inviting you to a terrific morning of bush care. We will be clearing Bitou Bush (one of the most invasive species in the area which threatens over 50 native plants). We’ll mostly be under filtered shade. There’s an opportunity for afternoon water sports too!
Your contribution is a big step in our combined long term project to remove invasive species from One Mile Headland. In some areas natural regeneration will occur, in others we’ll give a helping hand and provide locally raised native plants and improve the resilience of this coastal forest. Once the site is cleared of Bitou Bush, the native plants we provide in Autumn will stand a far greater chance of survival. In the long term this will make the site more resistant to re-invasion from Bitou and other exotic plants, providing a stable and long term home for the abundant wildlife we have (and want to keep!) around the Tomaree Peninsula.
After our regen session, you’re very welcome to stay for a simple morning tea, supplied. Please just bring your own cup.
Escape Eco Adventures – the home of kitesurfing, wingfoiling and hydrofoiling in Nelson Bay –are inviting you for an afternoon of watersports. Location and activity will depend a little on the wind. Also, if you’re interested in learning or getting some friends or relatives to learn kitesurfing, hydrofoiling or wingfoiling, have a chat with Jordan or Yann from Escape Eco Adventures.
