Alfords Point crag is situated in a beautiful natural setting in Georges River National Park, which sadly suffers from being on the edge of suburbia, thus accumulating rubbish. Climbers can help improve and keep this area clean. Join other climbers and the NPWS to help remove litter in the morning and then stay on for a climb in the afternoon shade. The event is being supported by ClimbFit Kirrawee who are kindly providing an incentive for all participants with one free gym admission.

When

  • Saturday morning, 10th May8:45 -11:00
  • please arrive at 8:45am to sign in, ready for 9:00am start.
  • stay on for optional morning tea from 11am and afternoon climb

BOOKINGS ESSENTIAL

 - You must register so we know how many people to expect and can contact you in case of bad weather. You should be able to register, even if you are not an ACANSW member.

- You also must sign on to the NPWS volunteer service: Myimpact so that you are insured whilst doing volunteer work and your hours get logged. Once signed in look for Georges River National Park Volunteers

Please wear

  • Old long-sleeved shirt and trousers, closed-in shoes and sun hat

Please bring

  • Gardening gloves, old glasses or safety glasses if you have them
  • A small bag for personal items, your rain jacket (if showers), a water bottle and a small snack for on the track
  • A cup, and if you like, a chair for a simple morning tea after our clean-up session.
  • Insect repellent and sunscreen
  • Your own epipen if required, e.g. for tick allergy

Meeting place

  • The corner of Maxwell Close and Sylvan Ridge Rd. Please try and carpool.
  • Park so as not to impact local residents' houses

Climbing Afterwards

Climbing afterwards is not part of the NPWS clean-up, so you climb at your own risk. Participating is a good way to meet people if you haven't got a regular outdoor group. People will be happy to belay and set up top ropes if you don't lead climb, but ideally you should know how to safely tie in, do buddy checks and have your own harness, helmet and shoes as a minimum. Experience top-rope belaying would also be good.
