The current Kiama Visitor Strategy submission process provides an opportunity for climbers to encourage Kiama Shire Council to embrace an existing, unique and relatively cheap tourism draw card on their doorstep- that is the basalt columns and climbing opportunities these bring. The NSW national park service wants community feedback on proposed changes to camping in NSW. Many camping charges in parks climbers visit will increase dramatically if the fee scale goes ahead. We urge climbers to examine the changes and provide a submission of their own. You can read the linked ACANSW submission which is focused on the impacts the changes could have on climbers. You may want to consider how the proposed changes will impact other park camping experiences you enjoy. Submissions needed: NPWS Camping Proposal 13th May 2025

Earlier today we contacted members encouraging them to sign this open letter to the minister for Parks Victoria about the proposed climbing bans at Arapiles / Dyurrite. The letter comes from climbing organisations around Australia and can be signed by individuals and businesses. 
Subsequently there is news that climbing representatives will meet with the minister next week, and a parliamentary petition that only Victorians can sign is under preparation. Update on Arapiles Tooan State Park- open letter for signing 08th November 2024

Australia’s and arguably the world’s best trad crag is to have access to half of the climbing areas closed. Over the past 3 years cultural heritage assessments have been undertaken and the outcome of this has finally been revealed in a draft management plan. The news is not good for climbers. ACANSW and SRC representatives recently met with the NPWS to discuss crag stewardship plans for Alfords Point crag which sits in Georges River National Park.
