Climbing Film Tour 2024 invites ACANSW
17th November 2024
ACANSW was thrilled to be invited by Adventure Entertainment to co-host the Climbing Film Tour 2024 in Sydney. The tour has some great stories and footage from the Warrumbungles, to the winter crags of Scotland to the balmy seaside of Jamaica. Initially, we had anticipated a member drive, but with events in Victoria unfolding, we also used the opportunity to encourage people to sign an open letter about the proposed bans at Arapiles/ Dyurrite.
On the Tuesday 12th November, steely ACANSW President, Vanessa Wills, made an appearance at Roseville Cinemas which was sponsored by Brookvale Rock house.
On Tuesday 13th the festival sold out Mount Vic Flicks and ACANSW members Amanda Watts and Jacques Beaudoin spoke to the crowd about ACANSW campaigns, as well as Jacques starring role in one of the evening’s films. Mother Earth is a carefully shot and dramatically composed film by Ben Sandford about Jacques’ years-long projecting of a steep crack in the Gardens of Stone.
On Thursday 14th it was the turn of the Randwick Ritz. ACANSW Treasurer Mic Cavazzini lived up to his initials as MC. There was a special appearance from Australian Olympian (Tokyo 2020) and all-round crusher Tom O’Halloran, and a swag of prizes from the very generous tour partners (Arc'teryx, PETZL, Cotopaxi, Wild Earth, SCARPA, Thermos, Vertical Life, Capital Brewing Co, the Crag) and many local supporters too (Summit Gear, Climbing Anchors, Good Grip Climbing School, Elevate Climbing Villawood, Nomad Bouldering).
Mic was also able to engage the crown on the valuable work that ACANSW has done over the years, and its current focus on the Mt Arapiles/Dyurrite campaign. This prompted a couple of dozen new signatures to the letter for Parks Victoria asking for a more thorough and transparent consultation process.
There is one more event in Sydney on Tuesday 19th at Dendy Newtown hosted by our tireless Emma Horan (Nomad Bouldering). It’s not too late to get a ticket. After that the roadshow moves on to Tasmania, Western Australia and Victoria.
Many thanks once again to Adventure Entertainment for reaching out to us. Please support them again in March by going to see the Reel Rock tour which they also organise, or signing up to their other platforms, Vertical Life and Adventure + streaming.
