One Mile Beach Bush Regen
11th May 2025

8 hardy climbers joined in the community bush regeneration event organised by the Friends of Tomaree on May 10, one of three crag care events happening around the state that day.
As has been common lately, the weather wasn’t great, and the post-weed climb was thwarted by rain which hit at the end of morning tea. Hopefully the participants can use their gym pass donated by Pulse Climbing, Adamstown instead.
Climbers were deployed on the steep slopes at the end of One Mile, removing bitou, Turkey rhubarb, prickly pear and lantana. Some replanting also went on, though nature has done a great job at restoring itself in the areas tackled in last year’s events. We will eventually get to the top of One Mile crag - there is so much bitou that only the walk-in is being weeded at present.
The National Parks Association and Lou, the Worimi Lands Ranger that attended were very appreciative. Some discussion was had around some other locations that climbers could help out at. Despite the weather, it was a good social occasion, bringing together people from many different spheres for a common goal.
