The Plan of Management for Budderoo and adjacent National Parks has been released. The draft had a blanket ban on climbing. ACANSW ( Hunter/ Central Coast Coalition) and the NPWS have been chipping away at lantana in the Watagans National Park since 2019. The third annual Monkeyfest has just been held with 30 climbers helping weed lantana to restore subtropical rainforest and sclerophyll slopes around the cliff and camping grounds. The local climbing gym sponsored a BBQ and evening talks and a quiz helped foster a great sense of community. Monkeyfest 2026- The battle against the lantana goes on - 17th June 2026

We encourage all climbers, especially those in Northern NSW (and southern Queensland) to put in a submission to the NSW NPWS about overturning the long-standing ban on climbing in these national parks. The Emirates Wolgan Valley resort has applied to increase helicopter flights into the Wolgan to 30 movements/day or 210 movements/week. You have until 5pm, 18 May to lodge a submission about this with the Dept of Planning. Although this is proposed as a "Temporary modification" to allow resort operation whilst the road is repaired, modelling and consultants seem to be preparing for increased flights even after the road reopens.
